Senua’s Saga: Hellbalde II (Hellblade 2) – Day 1 Release crashing

People with an Intel 13th/14th gen CPU – like me – currently experience crashes of Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) Engine when strying to start the game.

Errors include keywords like LowLevelFatalError, DecompressShaderwithOodle or simply “out of video memory”.

As it seems UE5 engine struggles with some timings, especially when running with overclocking / XMP profile enabled.

I am currently running an Intel Core i9-14900K, Z790 Chipset, DDR5-6000 DRAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 4080 Super, pretty much on default settings but with XMP profile active. This conffiguration led me into the errors shown above. The errors occured on Steam and XBOX GamePass versions likewise.

For me it was enough to lower the Performance Core Ratio using Intels Extreme Tuning Utility from 57x (default ony my system) to 55x to run the game flawlessly.

The tool can be downloaded from Intels website at https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/17881/intel-extreme-tuning-utility-intel-xtu.html

You might need to tweak some BIOS settings to use it (e.g. enable CPU Undervolting Protection).

Be aware: this is a powerful tool which – while unlikely to cause permanent damge – can render your system completely unuseable!

Enjoy!
